Overview

Thanks to a complicated regulatory immune system, immune responses are normally kept in check to prevent various immune-based diseases.  Regulatory immune cells, including but not limited to T, B, DC cells, are key players that regulate the immune system.  Among theses players, CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) are mostly studied and recognized regulatory cells.  However, newly emerging regulatory lymphoid cells, such as CD8+ Tregs and Bregs, are also shown to play an essential role in immunosuppression and tolerance. This lecture will provide an overview on emerging CD8+ Tregs.  Their phenotypes, antigen-specificity, functional requirements and their suppression of allograft rejection as well as autoimmunity will be presented and discussed.

Objectives

To gain comprehensive knowledge on immune regulation that is essential to transplant survival or immune tolerance
